The only time I've seen this error message are when the Connection Manager in Oracle8 is configured incorrectly. It may be that this error is also returned from the Multi-Protocol Interchange in 7.3 (that functionality is in CMAN in Oracle8), but that's just a guess. Are you using MPI?
