oracle and multiple processors

        If a database is running on an smp o/s, like solaris, then does it have anything todo with it's usage of the multiple processors. Shouldn't the o/s take care of all that for the database?

        Do user applications like a database have to be tuned for smp operating systems?

        If so is oracle running on solaris the best at this?
