     I took the Oracle8 class and found it very helpful when administering an Oracle7 database. Of course, this was back in July 1998 and most of the other students were working on Oracle7 databases, so your mileage may vary.

  I would recommend taking Oracle8 for some other reasons. Oracle (the company) seems to be pulling away from support of Oracle7. Oracle Education stopped offering instructor-led classes in Oracle7 before last July, so you may have difficulty finding an Oracle7 course. Oracle has announced that someday it will no longer offer the Oracle7 certification exams. On top of all that, users with Silver or better METALink support can get a free upgrade to Oracle8 on the same platform, which means that you may not be an Oracle7 site for much longer!
