Oracle7 (7.3.3+) is a pretty darn robust database product. Oracle8 added things like table/index partitioning, lots of performance improvements, data warehousing improvements, object capabilities, and more. Oracle8i will extend all that: a lightweight http listener is included with the database, you can write Java stored procedures, store them in the database (as well as PL/SQL), or use java on the middle (application server) tier, or (obviously) at the client; Oracle will support an 'internet file system' (iFS) where ANYTHING can be stored in the database. The representation to the user will be folder object; users can drag/drop documents, images, sound, etc, into iFS (which is really the database)....there is a ton of information on www.oracle.com.
