Hi Shmulik,

the answer is - not for the time being, but check out the following extract from an Oracle paper:

Oracle supports the use of any of its character sets as this national character set; the restriction to character sets containing the platform native set does not apply. For example, an ASCII-based character set, such as WE8DEC or the varying-width UNICODE UTF8, may be used on an EBCDIC platform. Additionally, Oracle has added three fixed-width, two-byte character sets for use with Japanese.

Oracle is exploring various potential future NLS-oriented features. Support for the UCS2 form of UNICODE, for declaring column and variable lengths in characters rather than bytes, regardless of character set, and for indicating a separate character set choice for each column in the database, are among the possibilities being considered. The goal is to provide NLS support such that application developers can easily build multinational applications in a character set in an independent way.
