Do DDL statements get stored in the archive logs?

I was restoring a database on a test machine and ran across an interesting problem. Our DBA had added a new datafile to the database but it had not been backed up. When I tried to restore to a point in time prior to the daily backup but AFTER the add of the datafile, it was unable to perform the restore. I guess this makes sense, but it made us start wondering what other changes to our database may not be stored in the archive logs? Are DDL statements stored (create, replace, etc.).

Thanks for you help!
