Suppressing old/new message in SQL*Plus

When I use parameters (&1, &2...) in an sql script, upon execution, all lines that contain these values are echoed as they were (old:) and how they will be executed the substituted value (new:). Is there a way to avoid having these lines echoed? The -s parameter only suppresses the "connected" blah-blah, not the old & new messages.

Thanks
