HELP! 7.3 EM and 8.0.5 Server

Has anyone had any problems using the Data Manager (7.3) against an 8.0.5 server ? It seems as though this didn't work properly (i.e. export of the DB bombed), so we installed the 8.x enterprise manager (which was reported to us a buggy) on a separate workstation. That seemed to work BUT then that workstation died.

After all this, someone tried to run anohter export from the 7.3 client which bombed AND seemed to corrupt the server since now even a freshly installed 8.x client won't work against the 8.0.5 server .!
