Yet another approach I have seen (but is unsupported by Oracle Corp.)...if each client machine needs a tnsnames but you want to control the content using a single shared (network resident file), in each local tnsnames.ora file embed only an ifile directive that points to the shared, network-resident copy. Not all client-resident apps will work with this configuration.
