Create DB

I'm a beginning in Oracle 8. When I tried to create the database using
custom option, the output database can't be connected and error message
is "SID not find". However when I use typical option to create the
database, there is no such error. 



p.s. I've checked that all the database services are activated. 
Could anyone kindly tell me the problem? thx
