Oracle 7.3 installation on NT.

Hi all, I have installed NT workstation 4.0. I do not have any network. It's a stand alone machine. So I have not installed network services. Now I installed Oracle7.3 on it and also sqlnet. I tried creating the service name for the database using TCP/IP protocol in TNSNAMES.ORA. It would not do TNSPING to that database. Do I have to have the network services installed ? Because when I try and install network services for NT it asks for adapters which I don't have. Any ideas ?
