Oracle7 BLOB performance

We are writing a VB application with SQL/Sombrero OCX & Oracle 7.? on Unix. We are making heavy use of ready and writing BLOBs and I'm looking for any information about performance tuning for BLOBs - increased buffers, special options, etc.
