Yes, Some of the main reasons to have multiple databases on a single machine
are:
Single code tree in order to run both db's Simpler software maintenance Cost advantage - one machine vs. two
A simple scenario is a machine that runs both your development and QA databases. They would normally both be running the same version. It would provide you an environment where you could test (foreign idea to some) and tune both your application and your database without the overhead of separate machines and separate oracle installs.
