Raw Datatype ??

Hi,

I have come across an Oracle datatype call "RAW" and "LONG RAW", it seem to be explain as "variable length character for binary data". What are the thing that we can insert in this datatype, is it a binary file like picture file, command file or else. How can we get the thing to be inserted into the table with have the "RAW" column datatype.
