Peter,

Depends on how "current" you need to keep these databases in synch. If these need to be in synch at all times, the replication server is your most viable approach.

Simply solution however is to restore from a cold back-up. More work involved if you refresh from a hot backup.

If this second database is for reporting purposes (my guess), you'd be far better off negotiating for a more reasonable update frequency which would enable you to leverage your existing backups.
