Progress Data Server

We are investigating the possibility of migrating a Progress 8.x application to Oracle 7.3.4 and would like to do it both quickly and efficiently. Rather than rewriting the entire application, Oracle suggests using the Progress DataServer product. This product allows Progress .p programs to access a back-end Oracle database.

Does anyone have any experience using this product? What are the benefits/drawbacks? Did performance suffer when compared to the original Progress application/database framework? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
