Oracle8 on AIX4.2 - Raw disk or file system?

I am preparing to set up Oracle8 on an IBM SP frame running AIX4.2. My client says he has read that raw disk is 'much faster' than file systems for storage on AIX, but can't point to any printed stuff to back himself up. Frame has 4 CPUs, 1GB of memory, and big pile of disk (sorry, don't know what flavor). Disk is shared among 4 nodes in the frame.

Does anyone out there have experience with this? I am leery of doing raw, given extra effort to configure, backup, restore, etc. I would esp. like to see any references to published articles, white papers, docs, etc. to confirm/debunk superiority of raw.

Thanks in advance to all. Received on Fri Feb 27 1998 - 00:00:00 CST
