Connection hangs on Dec UNIX

Having a strange problem on our Dec Alpha server. A connection to SQL*Plus hangs 1) for a good minute OR 2) until another connection is attempted from a seperate terminal.

This only happens when running MTS on SMP machine. MTS on single CPU works fine.
