Sounds like you have a single box, if so then go into the registry, under local machine/software/oracle and change "LOCAL" to 2:bdm. You will not need a connect string if you are on the same box.

If running client server then you will need to add the instance to the listener.ora in under the d:\orant\network\admin directory. I think there is some example entries in this file.

The file you are modifying through sqlnet easy config is the tnsnames.ora file which is going to be on the machine you are running this program from.
