Hi there NewtoOracle,

                                      Thanks for your response. I'm not sure
what you mean by does svrmgrm actually work on the unix box?. Server manager in line mode (svrmgrl) works fine. Unfortunately after following your advice with direct login to the system as the oracle user, still getting the toolkit error. My environment variable pertaining to userid oracle are :

DISPLAY=TONYFERR:0 (tonyferr listed in hosts file and points to the ip address of my workstation)
TERM=vt100
ORACLE_TERM=vt100
NLS_LANG=
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/openwin/lib
OPENWINHOME=/usr/openwin
TNS_ADMIN=/oracle7/app/oracle/product/7.3.3/network/admin LOGNAME=oracle
ORA_NLS=
ORACLE_PATH=.:/oracle7/app/oracle/product/7.3.3/bin:/oracle7/app/oracle/product/

7.3.3/obackup/bin:/opt/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/GNU/bin/make:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/openwin

/lib:/usr/dt/lib
ORACLE_SID=idol

I have read the exceed documentation but still the error persists even though as stated previously, admintool, filemgr etc... work fine. Thanks for any help or assistance.

Regards
