Oracle 8 introduces the Object Relational Paradigm into the server, which basically means it extends the type system to include user defined types, the server will and does work in exactly the same way you are used to in Oracle 7. Thus you can protect you existing investiments (current knowledge) and move to the Object Relational as and when you need to.

8.0.3 includes the Objects Option (it can not be deselected), but from 8.0.4 it is installed as a separate option and thus Oracle is the Client Server Relation Database you have been used to.
