Under 7.3.2 you have to set some init.ora parameters, 'set trace context forever' stuff. I don't have the exact numbers with me, but check with Oracle support - it's well known and gos away under 7.3.3. Once you get this resolved, the syntax works just fine and you don't need any PQO stuff.
