I found the same problem after I installed the 3.0 Beta on an NT 4.0 machine. At install, you have to make sure you enter the proper host name for the machine; if you don't have a defined domain it will tack ".domain" on the end.
Locally, you will then have to use a URL of myhost.domain:port to attach. If you use a valid IP address or just host name even, you will get the "The request did not specify a valid virtual host" message. I did not have a DNS in my test environment and I could still not get my clients(2 Macintoshes to connect).
I don't know if host files mapped to "myhost.domain" would fix it or not, but I just went ahead and set up the DNS on my NT box. I can now successfully access the OWS from the clients with a URL of myhost.domain:port, but "ipaddress:host" still returns the no valid virtual host error.
