in unix, the easies way is to check the /etc/oratab file. Each instance should be listed here and whether or not it is auto started upon boot.

It may have been moved if the unix .profile (ksh) or .login has an environment variable TNS_ADMIN set to another path. typically if used, will point to $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin.
