Storing encrypted info in tables.

Anyone have a good technique for storing encrypted info in a table column? Needs to be fairly secure. These would be for storing of customers profiles & passwords in an Order Entry Customer Profile application, and are not Oracle RDBMS user passwords. I've seen this subject covered many times in the past, but never saved any articles.
