I am assuming that you are doing this on a UNIX box and I am also assuming that once you have the 7.3.2.1 software installed you are applying the madatory patch to go to 7.3.2.3. This will also assume that you are installing in the same ORACLE_HOME.

  1. Make a damn good backup!
  2. Deinstall all the 7.2 products.
  3. Install the 7.3.2.1 products by choosing to "Add/Upgrade Software"
  4. Apply the patches to get your kernel and products up to date with the 7.3.2.3 patch. Make sure you upgrade the installer.
  5. Make sure ORACLE_BASE is not set.
  6. Use the new installer to upgrade database objects.

This should work. If you are installing into a new ORACLE_HOME of course you do not need to deinstall the 7.2 products. Also there is another workaround but you need to modify the "unix.stp" and "unix.zoo" so it does not ask for a mount-point but this is easier and will work.

Let me know if you run into any trouble.
