I have done this using a cmd file starting the instance manager with the option to shutdown immediate and startup.....

use the NT sceduler ...to scedule the stop cmd file to run, then have your backup software (i use backup exec) run the backup, then have your start.cmd file run at some time when the backup should be done.

I cant remember the syntax for passing the commands to the instance manager but should have them in your operating system guide.

I KNOW I have done this with 7.2X but am not positive it works exactly the same with 7.1.

BTW, unless you know of some reason not to, you may want to upgrade your software to version 7.2.2.4.9 We found alot of problems with earlier releases. We are testing 7.3 now but expect to need quite a few patches.

email me at cdavidson_at_deltek.com if you would like me to email you a copy of command files for 7.2
