PDE-PUP001 ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

I am trying to execute an RPC as follows. ORCL is an oracle NT workgroup server. LINKS is an Enterprise server running on SOLARIS 2.5. I have a Database Link(PUBLIC) defined on the LINKS server which points to the ORCL server. There is a table called STUDENTS on the ORCL server. When I try to query the STUDENT table via the database link, I get the following:

select * from students_at_sda001;
PDE-PUP001 ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

The same scheme works the otherway. That is querying LINKS via a database link from ORCL. I am puzzled. Has any one seen this??
