replace VARCHAR2 column substring

Hello all,
What is the easiest way to replace part of a string in a VARCHAR2 column with another string?
My strings span multiple lines and I just need to replace one string with another.
Is there an SQL command to do this w/o requiring a procedure?
I'm on Oracle10g and my client is TOAD. TOAD lets me run any valid SQL command.
