I think you just hit the nail on the head.

I can't see Bob's postings any longer as they are killfiled but I did check out many of his postings on usenet. I think he is in some serious need of anger management therapy. Omlet without the obscenities. The archives show that he just likes picking fights and will keep at it until he gets in the last word: Give it to him and move on.
