Actually, the OP asked for a theory-supported answer so I see no problem with it being in c.d.t

As for the rest, the Oracle-bots totally ignored what he asked and reacted solely to the following instead: "(although I'm hoping that my choice of database will not lead to a solution specific to it, since so far my database is not platform, or database specific)"
