Here's how the site came into being and I'll leave you to figure out what interpretation you wish to assign to it.
I have been teaching Oracle at the University of Washington for 6 years which means 3 quarters per year plus some summer intensive programs. As the university refuses to use canned curriculum (Oracle's or anyone else's) all demos are developed by the instructor ... that's me.
I used to put them up on a website at the U but, unfortunately, students earning their keep doing system maintenance kept trashing it. So the user group volunteered to host it at no charge figuring it would be of value to the general Oracle community.
Given that the site is averaging more than 400,000 page requests per month I think the Board was correct (and yes I have one vote on the Board so no need to ask the question).
