If the lack of integration between SQL and Excel surprises you, I would suggest taking a class in relational theory. They have fundamental differences in how they model reality. Much of the capability both Oracle and MS have added to their respective dialects of SQL loses sight of the powerful mathematics behind the theory. In itself that would not be a bad thing, but in the hands of people who think Excel is a good way to store, manipulate and present data it becomes evil.
