oracle client install won't run

Hi,

I've just downloaded the oracle client for win32 installation CD from OTN and extracted the zip file on my C drive

if I run setup.exe in the root directory nothing happens at all. So I read through the documentation and it says to run autorun\autorun.exe which brings up a start screen, but as soon as I select "install/deinstall products it just exits.

There has never been any oracle software installed on this box before. I am logged on as an administrator. there is nothing in the event log and I can't find any log files or temp files anywhere

any clues please? -
