one would think this problem would be easily documented, but i couldn't find anything much on "IP address of host cannot be  dertermined"

i believe it is related to having a non-static IP address (don't remember all the fuzzy 'details'), but my solution has been to install with my network connection disabled, and also disable the network connection (and/or wireless) when rebooting the machine.

with that approach, installation of 10g took 16 uneventful minutes on my Toshiba notebook and iSQLPlus, Database Control, and SQL*Plus, etc all worked like a charm. Added HTMLDB and a generic DAD, all is well.

wonder what the official approach is for mobile installation... any Oracle Corp road warriors out there? what's your advice? mr. kyte, where are you?
