All Table, View and Clumn identifiers, as well as many others, are limited to 30 characters.

For all limitations, go to http://docs.oracle.com and search out the 'Oracle Reference Manual' (also known as 'Reference Manual', but not 'SQL Reference') and look in the limits chapter.

You are hitting the tip of the iceberg in the challenges of migrating from others to Oracle. SUggest you get yourself a copy of Thomas Kyte's "Effective Oracle By Design" and find out about some of the others before it's too late in the cycle.
