Any particular reason for using 8i on an XP(pro) machine? It's uncertified and the combination can result in unexpected behaviour.

However, you _might_ have some luck by going into manual mode. iow, do not start the services automatically. Instead start them manually - listener first, in case of automatic regstration.

However, if you can change something ... either back down to Windows 2000 (or switch OS) or upgrade to at least 9iR2.
