Was the Oracle environment set properly before the attemp to start the listener?

Does the $ORACLE_HOME/network directory contain a mesg directory full of msg and msb files?

Does the oraus.msg file exist in the $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/mesg directory?

Were the error messages displayed from an automatic startup after reboot or a manual attempt?
