Sorry Brian :-) I was joking with 2 Oracle gurus at work today about this. They (like you) also agreed that Oracle gets the bad rap most of the times for abnormalities that have nothing to do with Oracle :-) However, the *only* reason I thought it may have been Oracle is that it was the "New kid on the block" for me in terms of software I installed in the past few weeks.

I started noticing the slowdowns and "craziness" within minutes of starting up Oracle/Toad. In-fact, those were the only 2 processes I was running (not knowing about msblast.exe grinning in the background)...

Believe me, I have nothing but the utmost admiration/respect for DBA's and Oracle-Savvy folks!!!

However, in tune to what you're referring to, a few brilliant co-workers and myself (who is NOT brilliant) wrote a predictive dialer years ago. Being that it was a set of daemons interfacing to a Telephone switch *and* being that the phone switch was directly sending/receiving signals via a T1, the "dialer" would always get blamed from the users whenever there were problems with the T1's (whether it was a problem with the dialer or not) :-) After we wrote the dialer, it seemed that our job was to prove that the problem was outside of our demarcation point. So I feel your pain :-) Received on Wed Aug 13 2003 - 22:47:47 CDT
