The only other alternative is to try the new wire protocol ODBC drivers from

http://www.datadirect-technologies.com/products/odbc/odbcwireprot.asp

These do not need an Oracle client installed; they connect directly with the server's Listener ( Much like Java Thin-Client technology) - so if you have no installed Oracle clients this may be a way to go.

Note: I use these on my Unix box but otherwise I do not have any relationship with the company.
