This is of course the usual stupid argument.
I have found that those people who start out using GUIs will actually
NEVER LEARN SQL!
They are stuck with all the defaults TOAD and other tools force them
to use. Are those defaults always 'smart' NO. Do those GUI-types know
how to change the defaults? NO!
What are those GUI types where they end up in a situation they don't
have a GUI (believe me those situations DO exist, at least as there is
no X implementation of TOAD and other GUIs and many Unix servers don't
even have X running, or in situation where the server is behind a
firewall and needs to be managed using VNC or Timbukto Pro, or God
forbid, Microsoft Terminal Services). They are COMPLETELY HELPLESS
because they DON'T KNOW SQL!!
More questions arise: does TOAD have reporting capabilities as sqlplus
HAS? NO. Does it support input and output redirecting. NO!
Those who embrace GUIs will appear to be mentally retarted and helpless, because TOAD will ALWAYS be a few releases behind Sql*plus!
In the end the dinosaurs will make the CLUELESS gui DOMBOS obsolete,
because the dinosaurs have learned to THINK, and the gui dombos have
only learned to CLICK.
Now which one is better?
