This fix works in Win9x and WinME - I don't know if it will help in XP:

   To install Personal Edition 8i on Windows ME you    need to set a line in Win.ini (\windows\system)    file under the [Compatibility95] section:

      Jrew=0x00080000

   Then reboot and run Setup from the CD.
