Hi, Daniel,

You know I agree with you. I have stated in my sullabus (and verbally) that it is okay to use the newsgroups as long as the student states that he/she is a student, is looking for help (not answers), and explains what they've done so far and where they are stuck. I even provided the newsgroup names.

It is also explained that I consider it cheating to post the assignment without the aforementioned disclaimers.
