The simple answer to your question is, yes. The "internal" account will show itself as SYS in the V$SESSION view when queried. Oracle has long threatened to discontinue its use, and has finally done so with 9i. Expanding the SYSDBA and SYSOPER roles somewhat (well, not really expanding them, but making them play a larger role).
