I'll answer that question by putting one to you.

But first this proviso ... Oracle developers and DBAs (other than newbies) are professionals with as much of an investment in training as lawyers or physicians, with an equal need to keep current with the state of their profession, and at least in this country ... with equal income.

So let me paraphrase your question.

What would you do if an experienced Lawyer walked into a surgical suite and decided that he wanted to perform brain surgery?

My answer to your question may seem cold-hearted to many ... but if you aren't willing to pay your dues, go to classes, read books, apprentice (do an internship), and prove your skills ... you don't belong behind the keyboard. I don't care how good an attorney or C++ developer you are or were.
