reset backgound processes. Re: Oracle 8.1.7 Enterprise Server error

I have the same problems with ora 8.1.7 on NT2000 machines. However, in the nt enviroment, I shut down Intelligent agent and restart it in the service control panel. All the nodes can be found. so reset those background processes might help. It seems to be me that (at least on NT) "intelligent agent" does not pick up newly created database instances after it's already started.
