the logon should be system/manager don't put a / after manager. also make sure that the SID of the database is set as an environment variable
under windows 2000 professional, select control panel, system, and the the advanced tab, then click on the button environment variables, look for the bottom-most button named new, click on that and in the dialog box, for the variable name enter ORACLE_SID, for the variable value enter the name of the database you just created, then click on OK to close the dialog box,then continue clicking OK until you are back in the control panel window, and then click on the X to close it. You should now be able to connect via sqlplus as system/manager.
