You need the Oracle client software, depending on the version of Oracle you have. For small clients, we use the 8.0.5 Client as it is smaller than the 8.1.7 client and works with 7.3.4 - 8.0.5 and 8.1.7 servers and ODBC (MS-ODBC driver for Oracle with MDAC 2.1 SP3) equally well.

8.1.7 Client is huge on disk space.
