Try using Oracle 8.1.6 for Linux: it includes many bug fixes. It's not recommended that you use 8.1.5 on Linux. Also, check out the sessions at OpenWorld www.oracle.com/openworld. There was a session on Linux install with complete instructions. The .pdf file should still be on the site.
