Failed Copy command in SQL*Plus

I have successfully used the copy command to copy tables from one server to another, but it fails for a table with a few more columns that the others. The error is ORA-01458 (invalid length inside variable character string; an attempt ws made to bind or define a variable character string with a buffer less than the minimum requirement; Action: increase the buffer size or use a different type.)

I really don't know how to fix this. How does one 'increase the buffer size'? Is there a workaround? [This is Oracle8i on Netware5.1 with the two servers at different physical locations.] Thanks
